Decoding Early Safe Locks

Many early open-gate combination locks, such as those from Bumil, Knights, Brinks, and Safeguard plus others, had a unique vulnerability: predictable gates. This means you could often calculate the combination by applying gentle turning pressure to the handle or key while rotating the dial. When the last wheel "locks up," find the center of that locked position and input it into the calculator.
