Every day is a new adventure when you're a locksmith, and today was no exception! We started bright and early, heading into the workshop to pick up our new apprentice. It's great to have a fresh set of eyes on the job—it reminds you that even the basics are worth mastering.
Our first call-out was to an office in need. They had a key, but the door just wouldn't budge. After a bit of patience and a gentle touch, we found the culprit: a sticky mortice lock. It's a common issue with the Lockwood 3572, where the locking slide can get a bit grumpy. A quick clean, some grease, and the lock was working like new. It's always a satisfying feeling to get a business back on track with a simple fix.
Next, we were off to Fyshwick to help a business that had lost its keys over the weekend. With the mortice lock and ADI bolt, it was a two-for-one challenge. We got the door open, rekeyed both locks, and left the business with a brand-new set of keys and a renewed sense of security.
Back at the workshop for a quick lunch, we had a different kind of puzzle to solve: programming a spare proximity remote key for a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. These can be a bit fiddly, but our trusty Autel IM608 made quick work of it. It's always a pleasure to see a new key flawlessly programmed, ready to go.
Just when we thought the day was wrapping up, we got a call that sent us out to Aranda. A café's pivot door had a broken bottom hinge, and the door was practically falling off its frame. The concrete was cracked and old, but with some creativity and solid work, we managed to get the pivot to hold. It was a tough one, but seeing a unique door like that restored to full working order made it all worthwhile.
Then came the final call of the day: a BMW X6 locked out in Casey. Late night jobs aren't ideal, but getting a wire in to press a button on the remote and seeing that door pop open was a perfect way to end a long day.
Every day brings a new challenge, and every challenge brings a chance to learn and grow. It's moments like these that make being a locksmith so rewarding. Now, it's time to head home and get some well-deserved rest!
